Young Men and ED

Erectile dysfunction in older men is fairly common as half of all men around 40 to 70 experience it to some varying degree and frequency as it increases with increase in age.

According to a 2013 study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, showed that about 26 percent of younger men suffer erectile dysfunction, even though the younger men were physically healthier and had higher levels of testosterone than their older counterpart. At least half of them due to their smoking and use of illegal drugs had a more severe condition of erectile dysfunction.

In treating Erectile dysfunction, there is need to check for the common risk factors that include, smoking and drinking alcohol, Diabetes, High blood pressure, etc. when all these boxes have been ticked then a further probe can be done.

The penile ultrasound test may be done to check for abnormal penile blood supply.

When the young man does not show any signs of having any of the physical conditions that lead to ED but instead show signs of depression and stress, guilt about sex, performance anxiety, fear of loss of control, then consultation with a mental health expert is the best move.
