Nobody likes belly fat. It’s ugly, it makes it hard to find clothes that fit right, and guess what…it’s the most dangerous fat of all.
Most people have a goal of losing belly fat but few know why it’s so important to get rid of that nasty stuff. Many people believe that belly fat is just the layer of fat on the outside of your stomach but the real danger is the fat that is internal. It surrounds your organs and poses a threat to your life.
Having extra belly fat increases your chances dramatically of certain life-threatening diseases and conditions including but not limited to sleep apnea, high blood pressure, insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease or other heart problems, and even colorectal cancer. As you can see, it isn’t to be taken lightly.
You may find that you have gained belly fat as you got older, which is very common, since your metabolism takes a dive as the years progress. This doesn’t mean you are doomed. You can take steps to cut down your belly fat and reduce your risk of any of these scary health risks.
There are no shortcuts to losing belly fat. It takes time and consistency in your lifestyle changes but the good news is that it will work if you don’t give up. So what lifestyle changes do you need to make? I’m sure you already know the answer.
You guessed it. You need to eat more vegetables, less sugar, less fatty and processed foods, eat until you are almost full, and exercise regularly. Everyone has heard of the “beer belly.” Be honest with yourself and determine if your belly falls into that category. If you answered yes, it’s time to cut down on the beers.
